Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
The philosophy of the clinic is one of empowerment through the art of Chinese Medicine. Our holistic treatments not only relieve symptoms, but help identify the root causes of illness. Together we work to understand patterns of disharmony that contribute to your illness and discomfort.
How Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Work?
Chinese medicine is a comprehensive medical system that includes acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal preparations, Tui Na (therapeutic massage), nutrition, and Qi Gong (calisthenics and meditation). It is based on the concepts of Yin and Yang and the 5 Phases which were conceived by the ancient Chinese as a way of explaining nature.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine work by adjusting the Qi of the involved channels. This enables the Qi to carry out its function and resolve disease symptoms and discomforts that have arisen. Information is gathered by use of the Four Examinations: Looking, Asking/Listening, Smelling, and Touching. By using the principles of Yin and Yang, and the 5 Phases, a pattern will emerge and a diagnosis will be formed.

What might I expect from an Acupuncture Treatment?
You will sit down privately with us to discuss the primary reasons for your visit. We will ascertain a comprehensive health history, including but not limited to family health history, lifestyle, and so on. We will feel your pulse, tongue, abdomen, skin, eyes, and spirit will be evaluated. Based on these observations, a Differential Pattern Diagnosis will be constructed. You will then receive your first acupuncture treatment. The initial visit may last 1 to 2 hours.
Visits
Treatments depend on your overall condition and your overall goals. It may be recommended that you be seen twice per week to once per month. At each visit, we will discuss progress and make any adjustments necessary to further your healing process. Follow up visits last anywhere from a half hour (children) to 45 mins to 1 hour (adults).
Side Effects
Effects of Acupuncture are gentle with limited side effects. When a stimulated needle "grasps Qi", the patient may feel a sensation, ranging from tingling to heaviness, or tugging. This is a normal part of the healing process. Adjuctive therapies that may be used during a treatment include moxibustion, the burning of the herb Artemesia Vulgaris (known as Moxa); Auricular Acupuncture; Tui Na; Gua Sha (scraping); Cupping (suction); and more.
